Ushari talks to Makini
Ushari locates Makini, who is searching for her own staff. He introduces himself as a dear friend of Kion's and the Lion Guard's and tries to find out more. He asks if they're able to hear the bad lions of the past, and Makini replies that she's uncertain. Just then, she feels drawn to one stick on the ground. As she picks it up, a strong wind blows past her, and she knows that she's found her bakora staff. She turns to find Ushari, who has left. She returns to Rafiki, and the two make their way to Pride Rock to welcome her officially. Along the way, Makini starts to question Rafiki, who plans on answering her questions a bit later.

The hyenas meet the skinks
Ushari returns to Janja hiding nearby, who heard everything. Stunned, he agrees to seek out more information. With Janja still wary of Ushari, the snake brings him some friends of his, a group of skinks. After hearing what is at stake, Shupavu sends out Nyeusi, the stealthiest skink, to see where Makini and Rafiki are going. He follows them to the entrance of the Lair of the Lion Guard and slithers back to tell the others of his findings.

Simba's Pride wait to meet Rafiki's new apprentice

"We will make Scar rise!"

Kiara and Makini looking for water

Kiara is thrown into the geyser pit

Kion Use Roar of the elders in anger and lost control.
While the rest of the clan is distracted, Bunga and Ono leap over to Kiara, while Fuli tackles all of the hyenas. Beshte knocks down a large boulder on top of some geysers, and Kiara is directed onto Beshte's back, unable to run due to her burn injuries. Ono reports the news that Kiara has been saved, but Janja improvises, taunting Kion by saying, that they'll keep coming back again and again to harm Kion's family. In a fit of anger, Kion unleashes the Roar of the Elders, causing the volcano to erupt. The rest of the Guard arrive and find him and they manage to escape the eruption, meeting Kiara back on the mainland. Kion apologizes for letting his anger get the better of him and losing control of the roar, but is happy everyone is okay, and comments at least nothing else bad happened.
Unknown to him, however, Ushari starts trying to summon Scar. When the Guard reaches the Pride Lands, Kiara thanks them for their work, and Beshte takes her home. But Kion is distressed that he allowed the hyenas to get to him. Fuli and Bunga assure Kion that it's alright, and Kion eventually cheers up a little, glad that nothing else bad happened.
Scar has risen!
In the volcano, Ushari is unable to summon Scar by shaking the staff. When Janja returns, he is furious that all of their hard work was for nothing. He angrily grabs the staff away from him and swipes it into the volcano, furious that the scheme was all for nothing. Janja shrinks back as a volcanic entity arises from the pit in a small eruption, cackling. When Janja stutters and questions, if he truly is who he believes him to be, the entity then confirms himself to be Scar.

All is fine in the Pride Lands, but an old enemy lurks around the corner...

Production & Development[]
The Rise of Scar went largely unmentioned. Voice actor Kevin Schon stated that Season 2 would begin with a two-part opener that would premiere in the autumn of 2017[3], which was the first mention of what would eventually be revealed as The Rise of Scar released in the summer of that year. It's likely that The Rise of Scar was intended to be the Season 2 opener, but was pushed back by 5 episodes.
To tie in with the episode, toy manufacturer Just Play created a Rise of Scar Playset, which was revealed in February 2017 at the toy fair, confirming Scar's return to the franchise.
DVD Release[]
The official DVD for The Rise of Scar was released on January 9th.
