Michael Luwoye is the voice of Askari in The Lion Guard

 Early Life

Michael Luwoye was born in Huntsville, Alabama, the youngest of four children born to immigrants from Nigeria who settled in Alabama in the 1980s.  His mother was an engineer, and his father became the owner of a wholesale ice cream distribution business.


Michael Luwoye currently stars in Hamilton on Broadway as Alexander Hamilton. Luwoye, born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, went to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and decided to make performing a career as a junior in college. Other credits include Invisible Thread at Second Stage (Off-Broadway) for which he received a Lucille Lortell Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical, Peter Tosh in Marley at Centerstage Theatre in Baltimore, and Cardboard Piano at Actors Theatre in Louisville. He recently appeared as a guest star on The Magicians on SyFy, and was in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
