Prior to The Lion Guard[]
After Simba ran away from home following his father's death, he was rescued by Timon and Pumbaa from vultures in the desert. They taught him Hakuna Matata, which means No Worries in Swahili. After years passed, Pumbaa was chased by a lioness who tried to eat him, but Simba saved him, and realized that the lioness was his childhood friend Nala. He shows her his new home, but she told him Scar and the hyenas had taken over the Pride Lands, but Simba told her he couldn't go back. Rafiki decided to show Simba that his father wasn't gone, but lived on within him. Looking at a small pool of water, he saw his father appear. Mufasa then appeared in the clouds and told Simba to remember who he is. When Simba's answer was granted, he decided to go back and challenge Scar to take his place as King. At the end of Scar's reign, Timon's Ma and her group of meerkats had moved to new home, and the hyenas would never come again.
